Mellow Expeditions - @tom0utside

This month's Mellow Expeditions feature is a little different than usual. Rather than talking to someone about a recent hike or trip, we spoke with @tom0outside about selling everything (apart from his favourite Mellow pieces) and moving to the other side of the world for a whole new lifestyle surrounded by the beauty of nature. Here’s what he had to say.

I recently made a life-changing decision to quit my job, sell everything, and embark on a new chapter in Canada, driven by the desire for a life closer to the mountains. Living in the south of England meant a 5+ hour journey to reach the peaks(I drove over 28,000 miles in 7 months! Don’t tell the insurance man lol), but my passion for hiking led me to the decision to move to here. Back in England, I was part of a hiking group called Outdoor Archives, where I made lifelong friends. The thought of an OA hike here in Canada would be unreal and I hope some of my friends decide to visit.

Now settled in Canmore, near Banff, with my girlfriend, I am surrounded by the majestic Canadian Rockies. The proximity of many AllTrails hikes has me feeling forever lucky; the accessibility to nature here is something I definitely won’t take for granted.

This move isn’t just about escaping the 9-5 routine; it’s a pursuit of a life rich in experiences, cultural diversity, and working with brands to fulfill my dreams. To travel, explore the world and meet new people is very important to me.

My future after this adventure will consist of more travel, work in different countries, and perhaps even forming my own hiking group. I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to move here and experience hiking and skiing in the stunning Canadian wilderness. Life is about embracing the beauty of different cultures and places, and I am excited to continue discovering what the world has to offer.
